President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to staying in the 2024 presidential race, despite growing calls from within his own party for him to step down. In a letter to congressional Democrats, Biden stated that he has had extensive conversations with party leaders, elected officials, and voters, and believes he is the best person to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Despite nine House Democrats publicly calling for Biden to drop out, and concerns from other Democrats, Biden expressed confidence that the average voter still wants to see him face off against Trump.
In addition to the calls from within Congress, a group of billionaires, including Christy Walton of Walmart and crypto investor Michel Novogratz, have also urged Biden to step aside. The fallout from a poorly received debate performance has led to increased pressure on Biden to reconsider his candidacy. Some Republicans have even called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked to remove Biden from office, although Biden has shown no signs of backing down.
